Synastry vs Composite Charts — A Responsible Advanced Compatibility Primer

Learn the difference between Sun-sign compatibility, full-chart synastry and a composite chart, and why AstroOne keeps advanced relationship methods separate from its existing simple compatibility tools.

Simple compatibility and synastry start from different amounts of data

AstroOne’s existing Western Zodiac Compatibility is deliberately a Sun-sign tool: it combines element, modality, polarity, ruler context, sign-to-sign aspect geometry and adjustment factors into readable overall and sub-scores. Full synastry is a different calculation problem because it compares planetary and angular positions across two complete natal charts. A Sun-sign score can be useful at its own level, but it should never be relabeled as full synastry.

Synastry compares one person’s chart with the other person’s chart

Synastry asks questions such as whether one person’s Venus aspects the other person’s Mars, or how Moon–Saturn, Mercury–Mercury and Sun–Moon contacts behave within their configured orbs. Individual contacts can describe attraction, communication, emotional pacing, responsibility or friction, but one aspect does not decide the relationship. Repeated themes, chart context, birth-time precision and observable behavior all matter.

A composite chart represents a relationship chart, not two charts side by side

A common composite method takes midpoints between corresponding positions in the two natal charts and builds a symbolic “relationship chart.” The composite Sun, Moon and other points therefore describe the partnership as a shared entity rather than simply how Person A affects Person B. Midpoint rules, angles, houses and time/location conventions have to be documented before a composite feature can claim professional calculation quality.

Advanced charts should complement simple tools, not erase them

A user without reliable birth times may be better served by a transparent Sun-sign or birth-date method than by a chart feature that pretends to know uncertain angles. When both birth times are reliable and the question truly needs chart-level detail, synastry can add depth. The honest product principle is not “advanced equals correct”; it is to match method depth to input precision and the user’s actual question.

AstroOne does not currently expose advanced synastry or composite charts

AstroOne does not currently offer a public advanced synastry or composite-chart product. The existing Western Zodiac Compatibility tool is a separate Sun-sign method and should not be mistaken for full synastry. If deeper relationship astrology is added later, it should be presented as a distinct method that complements the simple tool rather than silently changing what the existing score means.
