Chinese Zodiac Compatibility — Harmony, Clash, Elements and the Score
A transparent guide to how AstroOne combines the Chinese New Year boundary, Earthly Branch relationship tags, Yin/Yang, elements and temperament dimensions without treating one harmony or clash as a verdict.
- The animal sign is resolved at the Chinese New Year boundary
- Harmony and clash are relationship tags, not final judgments
- Branch element, year element and Yin/Yang are separate layers
- The sub-scores explain why the overall score looks the way it does
- Year-animal compatibility is not a full BaZi relationship chart
The animal sign is resolved at the Chinese New Year boundary
Before compatibility is calculated, each birth date has to be assigned to the correct zodiac year. AstroOne uses an explicit Chinese New Year boundary table for 1900–2100, so a January or early-February birthday can still belong to the previous animal year. Getting this boundary wrong changes the animal, branch and every downstream relationship factor, which is why the date boundary matters more than any later prose.
Harmony and clash are relationship tags, not final judgments
The service checks Six Harmonies, Three Harmonies, Six Clashes, Six Harms, punishment, self-punishment and break relationships. A pair such as Rat–Ox can receive supportive relationship factors, while a clash-and-punishment pair such as Ox–Goat carries more adjustment pressure. These tags are inputs, not verdicts: harmony does not guarantee success, and clash does not automatically mean incompatibility.
Branch element, year element and Yin/Yang are separate layers
Each animal has a fixed Earthly Branch and branch element—for example the Rat branch is associated with Water and the Tiger branch with Wood. The year element derived from the birth year is a different layer, so two people with the same animal can still carry different year-element context. AstroOne keeps branch relations, polarity, elements and temperament factors separate rather than using one shortcut such as “same element equals perfect compatibility.”
The sub-scores explain why the overall score looks the way it does
The current Chinese Match exposes six dimensions—Mutual Support, Communication, Emotional Safety, Conflict Repair, Daily Life and Long Term—and combines them into a bounded 40–94 overall range. The locked Rat–Ox example reaches 92 overall while Conflict Repair is still lower than several other dimensions; the Ox–Goat example reaches 41 with difficult tags reflected across multiple metrics. The sub-scores therefore matter because they show where adjustment is actually needed.
Year-animal compatibility is not a full BaZi relationship chart
AstroOne Chinese Zodiac Match is deliberately scoped to year-animal compatibility. It does not calculate month, day or hour pillars, hidden stems, Ten Gods, luck pillars or a full BaZi relationship analysis. The accurate description is therefore a transparent year-animal method with additional relationship dimensions—not “complete Chinese destiny compatibility.” Use the result for reflection, while giving safety, respect, trust and observed behavior greater weight than any symbolic score.
