Solar Return Basics — What the Annual Sun Return Actually Means
Understand the Solar Return as the exact annual return of the transiting Sun to the natal Sun longitude, then separate that instant from return-chart houses, location choices and interpretation.
A Solar Return is an astronomical return, not a birthday guess
A Solar Return is defined by geometry: the transiting geocentric tropical Sun reaches the same ecliptic longitude as the natal Sun. It usually falls close to the calendar birthday, but it is not automatically the birth clock time and it can shift by hours from year to year. The useful starting point is therefore the solved return instant, not a midnight birthday assumption.
Separate the return instant from the return chart
Solving the Sun-return instant does not by itself create a complete Solar Return chart. A full chart uses the planetary positions at that instant, while the Ascendant and houses also require an explicit return location. AstroOne Plus now uses a user-supplied return timezone, latitude and longitude to calculate the Ascendant and Whole Sign houses; the system does not guess the return location.
Why the return location matters for houses
The exact UTC instant of the Sun return does not change because you are in a different city. Houses do change because the local horizon and meridian depend on latitude and longitude. Whether a system uses the birthplace, the place where the person actually spends the return, or another stated convention is therefore an interpretation policy that must be explicit. Hiding that choice can make a chart look more precise than it really is.
Do not turn the Solar Return into a guaranteed annual forecast
A Solar Return is most useful as an annual emphasis map: it can organize which themes deserve closer attention during the year. It should not be converted into guarantees that a breakup, promotion, move or financial event must occur. Responsible interpretation compares the return chart with the natal chart, current transits and real circumstances, then turns the symbolism into questions and choices rather than fixed outcomes.
What AstroOne can and cannot claim today
AstroOne now requires a timed birth and timezone, root-solves the target-year Sun return, and then requires an explicit return-location timezone plus latitude/longitude before casting the annual chart. The return location controls the Ascendant and Whole Sign houses; it does not alter the geocentric return instant. Solar Return is available as a Plus annual-emphasis tool, with interpretation intentionally framed as symbolic context rather than promises of specific events.
