Name-number method & limits
Learn the number and cycle methods AstroOne actually calculates, from formula to interpretation and synthesis.
AstroOne uses a sequential A–Z 1–9 mapping
The current NameNumerologyCore maps A/J/S=1, B/K/T=2, C/L/U=3, D/M/V=4, E/N/W=5, F/O/X=6, G/P/Y=7, H/Q/Z=8 and I/R=9. This sequential table is commonly called modern “Pythagorean” numerology, but Academy does not claim that this exact English-alphabet chart was authored by the historical Pythagoras.
How AstroOne separates Expression, Soul Urge and Personality
Input is normalized to uppercase Latin A–Z only; spaces, punctuation and native scripts are removed. All letters feed Expression; A/E/I/O/U feed Soul Urge; the remaining letters feed Personality. In the current AstroOne method, Y is always on the consonant side.
Name-number methods genuinely differ by school
The Hans Decoz school reduces individual name parts before combining them and can classify Y as a vowel or consonant by pronunciation/context. AstroOne currently sums the normalized full string and always treats Y as a consonant. Those are different modern conventions, so some compound or Master-number results can differ.
Do not fake a native-script name calculation
Because normalize() removes non-Latin characters, the current method cannot genuinely calculate Burmese, Chinese or Thai native-script names. If a user has not supplied a Latin spelling, Academy should not silently invent a transliteration.
Calculating “Maya Lin” with the current AstroOne method
- Input
Synthetic Latin spelling = “Maya Lin”.
- Calculation
Normalize → MAYALIN. All letters total 30 → Expression 3. A+A+I = 11 → Soul Urge 11. M+Y+L+N = 19 → Personality 1.
- Factors to inspect
Notice that Y is placed with consonants and the space is removed under the current AstroOne rule.
- Reasoning
Read Expression 3, Soul Urge 11 and Personality 1 as three different positions—overall expression, inner motivation and outward impression—rather than three competing labels.
- Synthesis
A cautious symbolic synthesis might describe “an expressive style, a more sensitive or idealistic inner pull, and a direct outer presentation,” but it should not be stated as a verified personal fact.
If another school handles Y or name-part reduction differently, the result can differ; that difference should be disclosed rather than hidden.
